More than 70 countries are participating in the Tanzania conference on food systems in Africa
Thousands of participants from more than 70 countries are meeting in the commercial capital of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, for the main meeting of Food Systems in Africa. Economic analysts have asked African leaders to provide solutions to the challenges of international markets in the continent by establishing enabling policies that will be beneficial to farmers and traders of agricultural products. A call has also been given to African countries to ensure there is access to sufficient food and to develop free trade to improve food security and economic development in Africa.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr.Philip Mpango has urged African countries through the meeting to discuss the possibility of removing trade barriers through the removal of unnecessary taxes. The Vice President of Tanzania has said that African governments should take various measures, including providing small farmers with cheap inputs, knowledge, skills and capital to increase productivity in the value chain of food production. A lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam, Nasoro Kitunda has said that the lack of a common direction of policy and law in business matters is a challenge for African countries, a situation that can hinder the development of business between these countries.
