The fighting between the M23 rebels and the DRC Army is raising a new wave of refugees
A new wave of refugees has emerged in the Democratic Republic of Congo after new clashes broke out between the country's army and the M23 rebel group.
Reports say, fierce fighting between the M23 rebels and the government army has caused a new wave of internal refugees in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Various circles in the states of North and South Kivu have reported about the new wave of refugees. According to the sources, M23 rebels recently captured the Shasha area on the road that connects the cities of Goma and Bukavu. Since then, the city of Minova, located south of the road, has been receiving many internal refugees who are fleeing the advance of the rebels, the representative of civil organizations in Minova, Delphin Birimbi, told the AFP news agency. Hailing from the Masisi district in North Kivu, these internal refugees have sought refuge in residents' homes, schools and churches, Birimbi added. M23 rebels Last January, the Army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced the start of a joint operation with the troops of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) against the M23 rebels in the east of the country. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo invited the SADC force after saying that it was not satisfied with the East African Community EAC troops who were supposed to fight the M23 rebels. The Democratic Republic of Congo has been accusing its neighbor Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebel group, a claim that has been denied by Kigali, but is supported by the United States, France, Belgium and United Nations experts.
