The army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has announced that it has stopped another attempt by the M23 rebels to take over the town of Sake in North Kivu, while fighting was reported in other towns of Rutshuru and Lubero.

More information says that tanks and other types of missiles were used by both sides, while the government forces bombed towards rebel strongholds from Mugunga besides the refugee camps in Goma .

Reports say that the missiles targeted the villages of Vunano as well as the hill inhabited by Kihuli rebels, which is 4 kilometers away from the city of Sake .

The road from Sake to the town of Mushaki has been closed following the attacks .

Also in February this year, the DRC army stopped the attempt of the rebels who had already approached the city of Sake, about 27 kilometers from Goma, in the east of the country .

M23 rebels

Fierce fighting between the M23 rebels and the government army has caused a new wave of internal refugees in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Various circles in the states of North and South Kivu have reported about the new wave of refugees .

In January this year, the Army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced the start of a joint operation with the troops of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) against the M23 rebels in the east of the country .

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo invited the SADC force after saying that it was not satisfied with the EAC troops who were supposed to fight the M23 rebels .
