Moscow's reaction to the seizure of Russian assets by the West
Moscow threatened the West with retaliatory measures to seize Russian assets.
The Reuters news agency, citing two informed sources and a British official, reported that G-7 leaders at an upcoming meeting will discuss the legal basis for confiscating $300 billion in frozen Russian assets. According to the report, US and British officials have made significant efforts in recent months to speed up the confiscation of Russian assets in Belgium and other European countries, and they hope that G7 leaders will make a stronger statement on this issue at their February meeting. In this regard, according to a report by Arab news, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Moscow, in response to the seizure of Russian assets in Western countries, has prepared a list of those countries' assets to be seized as a countermeasure. Peskov added: “We recognize the unpredictability of the other side and its desire to violate international laws and even its own laws, so we have thought of ways to reciprocate and do what will most benefit our interests.” The Kremlin spokesman further warned that seizing assets that Russia has outside its borders is illegal and could have devastating consequences, including damage to the global economy.
