NATO activity in Azerbaijan or Armenia is destructive

NATO's activity in the South Caucasus, regardless of whether it is in Azerbaijan or Armenia, is destructive in nature. This is how Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, commented on the recent visit of General Janush Adamchak, Director General of NATO's International Military Staff, to Baku.

During the visit, the Western official stated that NATO is considering new frameworks of cooperation with Azerbaijan, paying special attention to military training, operational compatibility, stability and development of defense potential.

According to Zakharova, NATO's real goal is to turn the region into a theater of confrontation with Russia, to provoke clashes between the countries, and then to benefit from it. Meanwhile, Moscow has a different position: decisions in the region should be made by the countries of that region.

In this context, Maria Zakharova noted that the upcoming negotiations in the "3+3" format clearly confirm that the implementation of Moscow's position is possible.

NATO will carry out long-planned nuclear exercises next week, the head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Mark Rutte said on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

"In an unstable world, it is vitally important that we check our defenses and strengthen them so that our adversaries know that NATO is ready and able to respond to any threat," the new NATO Secretary General told reporters in London.

"Steadfast Noon" military exercises will start on Monday and will continue for about two weeks. They will be led by Belgium and the Netherlands, eight military bases and 2,000 servicemen, 60 aircraft from 13 countries will participate in the exercises. These military exercises have been held at almost the same time every year for more than ten years. Bombers and fighters, which can carry nuclear warheads, participate in them. Combat ammunition is not used. The main part of the exercise is being carried out 900 kilometers from Russia, in the North Sea.
