NATO promises Ukraine new weapons

NATO member states announced they will provide five more strategic air defense systems to Ukraine in response to Kiev's requests to help repel Russian airstrikes.

According to AP, US President Joe Biden announced this "historic financial aid" to Ukraine during the NATO summit in Washington. According to a statement signed by several NATO members and Ukraine, the United States, Germany and Romania will donate a new Patriot system to Kiev, while the Netherlands and other partners will provide parts to "enable a another Patriot system". Italy has committed to providing a new SAMP-T system. 

The statement also said: "In addition, the United States and partners in the coming months plan to provide Ukraine with dozens of tactical air defense systems, including the NASAMS, HAwK, IRIS T-SLM, IRIS T-SLS and Cheetah. Meanwhile, Washington has promised to provide Ukraine with hundreds more air defense interceptors next year. Addressing the NATO summit in Washington, Biden said the United States would make Ukraine a priority in terms of sending weapons.
