Netanyahu goes ahead with settlement building projects, concerns of the US and the EU

Some say that the climate for Israel with Benjamin Netanyahu's Zionist extremism is changing not only internally but also in its external relations. In a public statement, the foreign ministers of Italy, France, Germany, England and the United States "strongly" opposed the plan of the new Israeli executive for the construction of about 10,000 units of colonial settlements and the start of normalization of another nine settlements already deemed illegal on occupied Palestinian lands.

This is what we read in the joint declaration of the foreign ministers of the five countries - Antonio Tajani, Catherine Colonna, Annalena Baerbock, James Cleverly and Antony Blinken - who say they are "deeply disturbed" by the initiative of the Zionist premier, Benjamin Netanyahu. For the signatories of the document, "these unilateral actions will only serve to exacerbate tensions between Israelis and Palestinians and undermine efforts to reach a negotiated solution of the two states".

The foreign ministers of the five countries add that they continue to support "a general, just and lasting peace in Western Asia, which must be obtained through direct negotiations between the parties". Although it is still steeped in hypocrisy, the note signed by the foreign ministers of five countries "iron allies" of Israel indicates that the constraints imposed by Netanyahu both inside the country and against the Palestinians do not make his partners calm at all.
