North Korea launches new missiles, USA and Seoul plan the biggest exercises
PYONGYANG - North Korea has launched cruise missiles off its east coast as the United States and South Korea are planning to hold their largest joint military exercises in the region, likely in June, continuing a cycle of provocations started for months. However, the South Korean agency Yonhap gave the news, citing sources close to the dossier.
Pyongyang confirmed, on Monday 20 March, a "tactical nuclear counterattack" exercise, with the launch of a missile whose warhead exploded 800 meters above the surface of the Sea of Japan. The missile was launched from Cholsan county in Pyongyang province and "proved once again the reliability of nuclear detonation control systems". According to reports from North Korea, the projectile was equipped with a simulated nuclear warhead. The launch was personally attended by the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.
