North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has said his country's armed forces will use nuclear weapons "without hesitation" if his country is attacked by South Korea and its ally, the United States.
The North Korean News Agency has quoted Kim as warning that if the enemy tries to use the armed forces to violate the authority of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, he will use without hesitation the destructive power of the country, including nuclear weapons.
The leader of North Korea added that: "If that happens, it will no longer be possible for Seoul and South Korea to exist."
The warning was issued during Kim's visit to a military training center for special forces west of the capital, Pyongyang.
Reuters reported that, earlier this week, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol threatened during his country's military parade that he will "destroy the North Korean regime" if Pyongyang uses nuclear weapons.
"If North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, it will face a strong and massive response from our military and the US-Korea alliance," said Suk Yeol.
Tens of thousands of US troops are in South Korea. According to Reuters, Seoul does not have nuclear weapons, but benefits from the protection of the US nuclear umbrella.
