Odinga quits Kenyan politics, now wants AU leadership position
The former Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr Raila Odinga, yesterday Wednesday, announced that he has withdrawn from Kenyan politics and entered the politics of the African continent in his efforts to vie for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Odinga said that he will not be too involved in Kenyan politics from now on to focus on his campaigns for the office of the African continent.
Speaking at a press conference with the Prime Minister, Musalia Mudavadi in Nairobi, Mr Odinga said he will invest all his efforts in his campaign after officially submitting a request to run for the AUC chairmanship.
"I will start working on the continent as soon as I am elected and that will be in February next year, 2025," stressed Raila Odinga.
He has said that he will not participate much in Kenyan politics from now on and that he has focused his attention on the campaign for a position in the African Union.
It is expected that, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, President William Ruto will officially introduce the former prime minister of Kenya as a candidate for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC) and officially launch his campaign across Africa.
