The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned a recent Israeli airstrike on Gaza's Nuseirat camp that resulted in the deaths of at least 33 Palestinians. The attack, which targeted a post office in the crowded refugee camp, has been described by the OIC as a "horrific" act of "organized terrorism and continuous genocide."
In an official statement released on Friday, the OIC declared that this attack is part of a pattern of violence that has been ongoing for more than 14 months against the Palestinian people. The organization emphasized the severity of the situation, highlighting the mounting civilian casualties in the densely populated Gaza Strip.
The incident at Nuseirat camp is the latest in a series of Israeli strikes that have hit civilian areas in Gaza. While Israel claims to be targeting Palestinian militants, the attacks have resulted in significant civilian casualties, raising international concern about the conduct of military operations in populated areas.
At Al-Awda Hospital, relatives of the deceased gathered to mourn their loved ones before burial. Suheil Mattar, who lost grandchildren and a daughter-in-law in the attack, expressed frustration and despair: "Every time things happen and we say there will be a truce and we will rest... After that, they change their minds, we don't know why. They have killed hope and optimism."
According to Gaza health officials, the death toll from the ongoing conflict has now reached at least 44,875, with over 105,454 people wounded since the war began 14 months ago.
The OIC's condemnation comes amid growing international calls for a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, pressure is mounting on both sides to find a diplomatic solution to end the violence and address the long-standing issues at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This latest attack and the OIC's response underscore the urgent need for international intervention to protect civilian lives and work towards a lasting peace in the region.
