Oman will not normalize relations with Israel

According to a report by the Israeli private broadcaster Kanal 12 on Friday evening, Oman had assured the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas, that it would not start the process of normalizing relations with this regime. After the Sultanate of Oman announced that it would open its airspace to Israeli planes bound for the east, the country promised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that it would not start the process of normalizing relations with Israel.

For his part, according to the report, Abbas said he would not condemn Oman's move to allow Israeli planes to fly in its airspace. In the future, the airspace will be open to all airlines that meet the requirements for an overflight, the Sultanate's aviation authority announced on Thursday (February 23). The Israeli channel also reported that relations between this regime and Oman have existed since 1978 and in the past a trade office operated between the two sides and there was also a water desalination pilot project for Oman.

Relations between Oman and Israel have deteriorated in recent years, until Oman opened its airspace to Israeli planes. The Civil Aviation Organization of Oman sees this measure in line with the Chicago Convention and the ICAO International Aviation Organization and non-discrimination between civil aviation companies. Israel's Foreign Minister Eli Cohen called this a "historic and important decision".
