Over $15 million is required to repair Jenin after Israeli assaults.
The Palestinian Minister of Public Works and Housing estimated that it would cost a total of $15.5 million to repair the infrastructure in Jenin that had been damaged or destroyed in the recent Israeli assaults. This damage includes buildings, roads, and vital infrastructure like water and sewage networks, Palestinian minister Mohamed Ziara said on Saturday.
Ziara emphasised that the total cost of the reconstruction and rubble removal of four buildings was $1.5 million, that the partial demolition of 25 buildings cost $2 million, that the cost to repair 250 residential units was $2 million, that the cost to repair 150 commercial and service buildings was $5 million, and that the cost to repair severely damaged mosque was $1 million.
The Palestinian minister went on to explain that $1.5 million was needed to restore the roadways Israeli government troops had demolished, totaling about five kilometres inside the Jenin refugee camp. There's also the matter of fixing up the partially damaged neighbouring structures.United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini has appealed for aid in rebuilding the Jenin refugee camp, which was completely levelled by a two-day Israeli military onslaught earlier this week.
Many homes were demolished, and the streets are littered with rubble, as well as electricity and water being disconnected to much of the camp, Lazzazini said on Saturday. Our immediate focus is on restoring essential services to the camp and giving emergency financial support to people whose houses were destroyed. It is crucial that we fix up our own structures, reopen four UNRWA schools that educate 1,700 kids, and set up a health centre so locals can get basic medical attention. Lazzarini emphasised that UNRWA is swiftly deploying more teams and assistance to make sure all of this occurs. The UNRWA Commissioner-General further said that his organisation requires the cooperation of its partners and donors to help reconstruct the buildings and houses of Palestinian refugees.
