Pakistan, at least 169 dead from monsoon rains
At least 169 people have been killed and 256 others injured during monsoon rains this year in Pakistan. This was announced by the national authority that deals with the management of disasters in the country (National Disaster Management Authority- Ndma), stating that the victims were registered between 25 June and 28 July. The eastern provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are among the hardest hit areas with 67 and 47 deaths respectively. At least 1,404 homes were damaged. Pakistan's meteorological department has forecast vigorous monsoon activity in the northern and central regions of the country during the next 48 hours. Heavy rains could generate flash floods in southwestern Balochistan province and some hilly areas of Punjab and Kp province.
