Palestinian resistance groups criticize Mahmoud Abbas' move to appoint a new prime minister
Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, has appointed Mohammad Mustafa to form a new cabinet, a move that has been criticized by Palestinian opposition groups.
Previously, the former Prime Minister of Palestine, Mohammad Ashtiyeh, had resigned, where Mahmoud Abbas accepted his resignation but asked him to remain in that position until the time of the formation of a new cabinet. The new prime minister of Palestine has been appointed in a situation where the genocidal war against the people of the Gaza Strip conducted by the brutal Israeli regime has entered its sixth month, a war that has so far led to the death of about 32,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 73,000 others. However, the Palestinian Authority has not yet taken any action to defend the people of Gaza.
Despite the fact that the Palestinian Authority has been calling the crimes of the Zionist regime against the residents of Gaza as genocide, but so far it has not taken any meaningful action in support of Hamas and other groups of the struggle for the liberation of Palestine in the region. . Palestinian groups oppose Mahmoud Abbas' move to introduce a new prime minister in that environment. The groups say that the unilateral action of Mahmoud Abbas to form a new cabinet in the current environment will lead to increasing ideas of monopolizing power and fueling divisions among Palestinians.
The statement issued by the groups says that the most important priority at the moment is to deal with the aggression and politics of genocide and hunger that the Zionist regime is carrying out against the people of Gaza. It says that taking decisions by one person and forming a new government without national consensus strengthens the politics of monopolizing power and at the same time increases the divisions among the Palestinians. The statement emphasizes the opposition of the Palestinian struggle groups against the insistence of the Palestinian Authority to continue the one-sided politics of monopolizing power and taking such measures as a sign of the magnitude of the crisis within the leadership of the authority and being far from it and the reality of the issues with the Palestinian people.
The important point in this matter is that Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, has tried to get the approval of the United States and some Arab countries in his selection of the new prime minister. In fact, that is one of the reasons for opposition groups to oppose the notification of the new prime minister. In this regard, Palestinian news sources say that the choice has been made despite opposition within the Fat'h movement itself. Those sources have also clearly announced that Muhammad Mustafa is a choice made by the United States and some Arab countries.
The new 70-year-old Palestinian prime minister, who holds a PhD in economics from George Washington University, has 15 years of experience working at the World Bank and has been a member of the Executive Committee. of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) since 2022. He also held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy in the previous administrations of that authority. Based on that history, the person is considered to be a Western-oriented prime minister who is supported by the United States.
