Since the start of the Zionist regime's offensive on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, American military bases in Iraq and Syria have repeatedly been targeted by resistance forces' drone and missile attacks. The US Department of Defense announced late Monday that its country's troops in Iraq and Syria had been attacked 165 times since October 7, 2023. Sabrina Singh, Deputy Spokesperson for the Pentagon, Monday (29/1/2024) evening, revealed that 66 attacks by resistance groups had been carried out against American bases in Iraq and 98 times against American bases in Syria. Singh added that 80 American soldiers were also injured in the insurgent attack. The US military and affiliated terrorist elements have long had an illegal presence in northern and eastern Syria. In addition to plundering Syria's oil and grain resources, they also took destructive actions against the Syrian population and troops in these regions. CENTCOM announced late Sunday that a drone strike on an American base in Jordan left three US soldiers dead and dozens more injured. Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, a member of Yemen's High Political Council, responded to reports about the deaths and injuries of a number of American soldiers on the Jordanian and Syrian borders as a result of resistance drone attacks by emphasizing the important message behind the attacks for Washington. American media Fox News pointed out that the drone attack on an American military base in Jordan near the Syrian border was the bloodiest attack on US troops in recent years.

United States media reported that the United States air defense system in Jordan was unable to identify the attacking drone. The Wall Street Journal, Monday (29/1/2024) reported that the air defense system at the United States military base in Jordan mistook the kamikaze drone that attacked the base as its own aircraft. Quoting White House officials, the US newspaper explained that the latest attack on a US military base, in northeastern Jordan, was caused by the failure of the air defense system to intercept the attacking drones. According to the Wall Street Journal, White House officials believe that the US air defense system, in Jordan, misidentified the attack drone as its own aircraft. The Wall Street Journal also explained that the simultaneous entry of two drones into a US military base in Jordan caused confusion, resulting in wrong identification and no action. The US military base, Tower 22 in Jordan, is on a strategic route connecting the borders of Jordan, Iraq and Syria. In addition, Tower 22, when the drone attack occurred, was protected by the Patriot air defense system. On the other hand, the White House government, on Monday afternoon announced that the US did not want to get involved in a war with Iran, or increase tensions in the West Asia region. (HS)
