Politico: A closed poll of Democrats showed disastrous results for Biden
Alternative Democratic presidential candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris, have better approval ratings than President Joe Biden among voters in seven key states that traditionally decide elections.
This is evidenced by the results of a closed poll of Democrats by BlueLabs Analytics, which became known to Politico. The poll, based on interviews with more than 15,000 voters in seven key states, shows alternative Democratic candidates leading President Biden by an average of three points.
Almost every candidate is doing better than Biden, including Vice President Kamala Harris. The latter, however, is inferior to the average index of other alternative candidates. These data indicate that the best chance of defeating Trump will not be Joe Biden, but the new Democratic candidate.
Potential candidates with the most support include Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. All four led Biden by about 5 points in key states.
The data supports the view of some strategists that blindly rallying Democrats around Harris would be as big a mistake as blindly supporting Biden's re-election. Almost twice as many voters believe delegates should nominate the best candidate rather than the next. Doubts about the wisdom of Biden to run for a second term began to grow after his televised debate with Donald Trump on CNN.
