Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, has called the Trump administration's move to deport immigrants a major crisis for the United States.
In an open letter he sent to the bishops of the Catholic Church in the United States on Tuesday, Pope Francis strongly criticized US President Donald Trump's policies regarding the deportation of immigrants to the country.
In the letter, Pope Francis has cited the deportation and brutal treatment of immigrants as a major crisis for the United States.
"What is created by force, not according to the equal dignity of every human being, begins badly and ends badly," said the leader of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis has been strongly critical of Trump's immigration policies since 2013, even saying in 2016 that Trump is "not Christian" due to his views on immigrants.
The Pope, who earlier this year called Trump's plan to deport millions of immigrants to the United States a disgrace, said it was wrong to assume that all illegal immigrants are criminals.
In his first days in the White House, Donald Trump promised to fulfill his promise to deport millions of immigrants from the United States. Since then, he has issued several executive orders directing military resources to support the deportation process and giving US immigration officials the authority to arrest more people, including in schools, churches and hospitals, and deport them from the country.
