The Government of Qatar has emphasized the responsibility of all countries to protect journalists and ensure a safe environment for them to do their work freely, and has called for an independent and impartial investigation, in accordance with international standards, and to ensure that all those involved in the killing of journalists in the Gaza Strip do not escape punishment.

This has been stated by Qatar before the United Nations Human Rights Council in its 55th session, through a speech given by Abdullah Nasser Al Naama, the Third Secretary of the Department of Human Rights in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country, when of discussions focused on "protecting journalists."

Al-Naama said, "The issue of protecting and strengthening the rights of journalists and the increase in violations of the law committed against them, as well as the extreme situations of avoiding punishment and not being held accountable for the perpetrators of the crime, is one of the important issues whose solution should be found as soon as possible.”

Qatar has added that the number of journalists martyred by Israel in Gaza, since October 7, has reached more than 130 journalists, 16 others have been injured, 4 are missing, and 25 have been arrested by Israel.

The Qatari official has said that the number may increase and be greater than the number of journalists killed in the current history of war.

Abdullah Nasser Al Naama has called for a quick, independent and impartial investigation in accordance with international standards, and to ensure that all those responsible for the killing of journalists in Gaza do not escape punishment.
