Report: US child deaths from shootings have reached alarming levels
Child gun deaths in the United States have reached an alarmingly high rate. That's according to a new study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Using mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a study published in the journal AAP Pediatrics found that 4,752 children died from gun-related injuries in 2021, the most recent data available, up from 4,368 in 2020 and 3,390, in 2019. Gun-related violence has been the number one cause of death for children in the United States since 2020. In addition, the study was published as Tennessee state lawmakers opened a special session on public safety, after a school shooting. of Nashville earlier this year, which killed three children and three teachers. The Institute to collect data related to shooting events in the United States has announced that, since the beginning of this year 2023 until now, more than 25,000 people have been killed by firearms across the country. According to the Gun Violence Archive, of the 118 people killed by gunfire every day in the United States, one is a child under the age of 11, and four are youths between the ages of 12 and 17. The firearm homicide rate in that country is bigger than any other country in the world; and statistics show that the current rate of gun homicides in the United States is the highest compared to 30 years ago.
