A member of the Hungarian parliament, criticizing the sending of weapons to Ukraine, called on the heads of the European Union to return the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. Hungary is one of the EU member states, which has opposed the imposition of sanctions against Moscow and the arming of Kiev since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Hungarian MP and former Defense Minister Stefan Smychko, speaking at a parliamentary meeting, said: "The European Union should return its 2012 Nobel Peace Prize to the Nobel Committee to be awarded to the Vatican or Hungary, because only these two countries in Europe are in favor of a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian issue.

He noted: "The leaders of the United States and the European Union have offered to transfer more weapons to Ukraine, and at the same time they are making efforts to impose more sanctions against Russia, even if this leads to a deterioration in the European economy." The representative of the Christian Democratic Party added: " In 2012, the European Union received the Peace Prize for its efforts to promote peace in Europe, but today power in Brussels (the headquarters of the European Union) is only in the hands of hawks."

Hungarian Foreign Minister Thomas Menzer also, confirming the statements of this member of parliament, said: "The current policy of Brussels is contrary to the goals that were declared when creating the European Union. The goals on the basis of which peace is guaranteed on this continent and the growth of the well-being of its people."
