Russia has overtaken the USA in terms of gas exports to Europe
Russia has overtaken the USA in terms of gas exports, reports the Financial Times.
Referring to the data of the ICIS consulting company, the periodical notes that in September 2022, the USA was ahead of Russia in gas supplies to Europe, but in May 2024, Russia again took the first place. In 2023, the US share of European gas imports was 20%, but in 2024 US LNG supplies fell to 14%, while Russia increased its share to 15%.
However, Tom Marzek-Manser, head of the ICIS gas market analyst department, warned that Russia is unlikely to be able to maintain its leading position due to sanctions and the development of liquefied natural gas production in the United States.
The next international conference on the issue of Ukraine should lead to Russia being invited to the summit as well, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said, RIA Novosti quotes.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine admitted that sooner or later it will be necessary to talk with Russia."Of course, we perfectly understand that the moment will come when it will be necessary to talk with Russia," Kuleba emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that the positions of the West and the Global South differ."Yesterday there were calls from the south about the difficult compromises that Ukraine should make, that is not the language we hear from our Western partners," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said.
On June 15-16, Switzerland held a conference on Ukraine near the city of Lucerne, Bürgenstock resort. 91 countries and 55 heads of state, as well as eight organizations, including the EU, the Council of Europe and the United Nations, confirmed their participation.
US President Joe Biden, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva did not participate in the conference.Switzerland did not send Russia an invitation to participate in the summit.
