Russia: Ukraine cannot become a NATO member

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that NATO should abandon its 2008 promise to include Ukraine in the military alliance.

As reported by Russia Today, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated on Tuesday that Ukraine's membership in NATO is unacceptable for Russia.

Germany claims Russia is a threat to NATO

Despite global efforts to end the war in Ukraine and make peace with Russia, officials in Berlin are trying to stir up division with provocative statements.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Wednesday morning that even if the war in Ukraine ends, the Russian threat to NATO members will remain. Pistorius claimed, “Our experts assume that within four to seven years, Russia could attack the territory of NATO member states.”

Russia: Yes to Ukraine's EU membership, no to NATO

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday during Russian-American talks in Saudi Arabia:
“Ukraine has the right to join the European Union, but NATO is different.”
Peskov added: “Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is the sovereign right of every country, and no one should decide this issue for another country.”
He stressed that security issues and membership in military alliances like NATO have completely different conditions, and Russia’s position on this issue is quite clear.

American analyst: Riyadh talks could be the end of NATO

Former Pentagon analyst Michael Maloof said that talks between US and Russian officials in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over the war in Ukraine could spell the end of NATO.
Maloof believes that the end of NATO means that Europe can finally form defense and regional alliances, but it can no longer create a coherent military alliance among 32 countries.
He emphasized that under the current circumstances, European countries can never reach a consensus on anything. So there is currently no cohesion in the European Union and NATO.
