Russia uses non-US dollar payments for 95% of its trade with China and India
Russia, a member of BRICS, a group of emerging economies that excludes the US dollar, settled 95% of its trade with China and India last year in non-US dollar currencies.
According to Ilnar news agency, Tatyana Monaghan, president of the Russian Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce of the ICC , said that the currency that Russia used last year for trade with China and India has changed significantly from before, and the proportion of each country's currency usage has increased significantly. I decided to do so. Furthermore, the share of US dollar and euro payments in Russia's total exports has decreased significantly, from more than 85% in 2021 to 34% in 2023. BRICS has publicly announced plans to eliminate the US dollar . And in fact, as a result of Russia changing its trade focus due to increased sanctions imposed by the West, the rate of use of national currencies in bilateral trade across the BRICS will increase in 2023. Additionally, there has been a significant change in the amount of each currency used in trade between Russia, China, and India, and 95% of Russia's trade with China and India is settled in currencies other than the US dollar . Trade between Russia and these two countries is already based on settlement in each country's currency. BRICS is a group of emerging economies led by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, named after their initials. From 2024, several new countries, including Iran, have joined BRICS. BRICS aims to form a new world economic order that is not dependent on the United States, but looking at the lineup of major countries that are participating in the group, it can be inferred that this goal will not be far off. Currently, BRICS countries account for more than 40% of the world's total population and approximately one-quarter of the total gross domestic product.
