Russian Foreign Minister: West Wrongly Made Ukraine Main Issue of G20 Summit
The Russian Foreign Minister assessed the holding of the G20 Summit in India as a success, and said the Global South's permanent and solid stance had prevented Western efforts to make Ukraine the main issue of the G20 Summit. Sergei Lavrov, Sunday (10/9/2023) as quoted by the Sputnik news agency, called the holding of the G20 Summit in New Delhi a success and a diplomatic victory. "We succeeded in preventing Western efforts to include Ukraine in the work agenda of the G20 Summit, and I am grateful for India's hard work in preventing the politicization of the G20 Summit," he said.
In a press conference held after the G20 Summit, Lavrov explained, "The G20 is currently going through an internal reform process, and the results of the G20 Summit in India will provide positive motivation to reform the IMF and WTO." He emphasized, "The Global South's permanent and solid stance has prevented the West's efforts to make Ukraine the main issue of the G20 Summit. The West cannot continue to perpetuate its hegemony, because we are witnessing new centers of power emerging in this world." Previously, the West carried out quite intensive propaganda to show that the G20 Summit in India had not succeeded in creating a common view from its member countries. (HS)
