Sanchez: I will propose to the Spanish Parliament to officially recognize the independent state of Palestine.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, has announced that he will propose to the Parliament to vote in support of the recognition of the Palestinian state until the end of his term, in 2027.

Sanchez said during an event organized by the Socialist Party in Bilbao, northern Spain, that "Before the end of the current Parliament, I will propose that Spain officially recognize the state of Palestine." He added that, "We will do this out of moral conviction and because of justice, and also because it is the only way that two nations, Palestine and Israel, can live together in peace and security." Sanchez - who was re-elected in November 2023 - previously expressed his desire to see Spain recognize a Palestinian state, without specifying a date for doing so. Spain is one of the countries of the European Union that criticizes Israel the most since the beginning of the war of the brutal regime that has killed and injured more than one hundred thousand (100,000) people, caused great damage to infrastructure, and a human tragedy that has never been witnessed. Last November, Israel summoned its ambassador to Madrid after Sanchez questioned the legitimacy of Israel's war in Gaza, before the ambassador returned to Madrid in January this year.
