Seizure of gold bars from the home of a Democratic US senator
Gold bars related to a bribery case were found in the home of a US senator.
According to NBC, four gold bars were found in the home of US Senator Bob Menendez, a Democratic member of the US Senate from New Jersey, in a possible connection to a bribery case, according to a US police investigation. The serial numbers of the four gold bars in the bribery charge match four of the 22 gold bars stolen from businessman Fred Daibes in 2013, according to the report. After Fred Daibes reported an armed robbery ten years ago that resulted in the arrest of four people, all of the gold bars, along with $500,000, were finally recovered and returned to Daibes. Menendez, New Jersey's senior senator, has been embroiled in numerous scandals that have resulted in two federal charges. Most recently, a superseding indictment filed in October by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York accused Menendez, his wife Nadine Arslanian Menendez and businessman Wael Hanna of conspiring to cause the senator to act as a foreign agent for Egypt.
