South Korean police have announced that they are investigating 17 American soldiers and five other people on charges of smuggling industrial marijuana via military mail. This investigation by South Korean police is being carried out after the raids that took place last May on two American military bases in the country, including Camp Humphreys, the largest American foreign base. The South Korean prosecutor's office is investigating the case of all 22 defendants and so far, one Filipino citizen and one Korean citizen have been arrested. According to AAA news agency; Cha Min-seok, a senior South Korean detective, said it was one of the largest legal cases filed against U.S. soldiers in recent years.

Following joint raids by the South Korean police and the US Army Criminal Investigation Department at these military bases, tens of grams of industrial hashish and more than four kilograms of industrial marijuana "mixed liquids" for e-cigarettes were discovered in this case . The defendants in this case are accused of smuggling industrial marijuana, known to dealers as K2 and Spice, into South Korea through the U.S. Army Postal Service. Seven of these defendants, including five American soldiers, were said to be involved in drug dealing.
