Borrell's warning: the migration issue could be the end of the Union
European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell warned against the profound cultural differences between European countries and their long-term inability to reach a common policy, migration could be "a force dissolvent for the European Union". He said it in an interview with the Guardian, on one of the topics of greatest interest at the moment, that is. On the one hand he was worried that this could represent a "dissolving force for the European Union", on the other he accused some countries of "not wanting to mix" and of having a "Japanese style".
The Berlin government says that "Rome is not respecting the readmissions of the Dublin system" and "until it does so, we will not welcome more refugees from Italy under the solidarity mechanism either". This was reiterated by the German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, speaking to the local media. Now Berlin is waiting for Rome to "come to meet us again" to fulfill "its commitments", Faeser said. While Italian Prime Minister Meloni is calling for global war on human traffickers at the UN and the Government is drawing up a plan to build detention centers for repatriations in every Region, it is a completely different tune that is being sung by President Sergio Mattarella together with German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Piazza Armerina in Sivilis, after the visit to the 'Don Bosco 2000' Association which deals with reception and integration. Perhaps not random coincidences which serve to establish some fixed points, on which the two presidents agree.
The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, recently left New York, after participating in the UN general assembly. "Can an organization like this, which states in its founding act 'faith in the dignity and value of the human person' really turn the other way in the face of this massacre?". She said this in her speech, launching the appeal to act "all together" on migrants. "I am convinced that it is the duty of this organization to reject any hypocrisy on this issue and declare a global war without concessions on human traffickers. And to do this we must work together at every level, and Italy - Meloni assured - intends to be in the front row on this front. A certain hypocritical approach on the subject of immigration has made these people enormously rich. We want to fight the mafia in all its forms, and we will fight this too. It must be a goal that unites us all."
