Sudan will soon suffer from a great famine
The World Food Program (WFP) has warned today that the war in Sudan that lasted for about 11 months between rival generals is putting the country at risk of being affected by a major famine.
Cindy McCain, Executive Director of WFP, has explained that millions of people's lives and the peace and stability of the entire region are facing danger right now. He said, 22 years ago the state of Darfur in the west of Sudan was an area affected by the worst famine in the world and the world cooperated to deal with the situation in that area. But today the people of Sudan have been forgotten.
The war between Sudan's army chief General Abdel Fattah al Burhan and his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who leads the militia called the Rapid Support Force (RSF) has killed tens of thousands, destroyed infrastructure and crippled the Sudanese economy.
In the current conflict, the RSF and the Sudanese army are both accused of attacking civilian settlements, targeting civilians and preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid. The WFP organization has said that currently it cannot reach 90 percent of Sudanese citizens who are facing the problem of hunger; and that only five percent of Sudanese people can afford a full meal a day.
