Supply of banned American weapons from Germany to Ukraine

German media reported that the country is storing American cluster munitions in Berlin and transferring them to Ukraine. German broadcaster NDR has claimed that the United States is using Berlin as a staging area for delivering cluster bombs and munitions to Ukraine, calling the move a violation of the UN Convention on the Prohibition of Such Weapons.

Under the UN convention, adopted in 2008, more than 110 countries have banned cluster munitions.

The reason for the ban is the serious danger these munitions pose to civilians.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the US Army in Europe and Africa Command said the American munitions are stored at a US arsenal in Maisau, West Germany, and are shipped to Ukraine from there.

According to the spokesman, the munitions stored at the Maisau military base include 155mm M864 and M483A1 cluster munitions.

German authorities have declined to comment on the report.
