Syrian Embassy in Saudi Arabia Reopens
The Syrian Embassy reopened in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Riyadh severed its diplomatic ties with Damascus at the start of the Syrian crisis.
However, in early 2023, Syria and Saudi Arabia decided to establish diplomatic relations, and agreed to reopen their respective embassies. Syrian newspaper, Al-Watan reported, Ihsan Raman, Consul General of Syria after visiting the Syrian embassy building in Riyadh on Sunday (1/10/2023) said, "The Syrian Embassy in Riyadh is a home for all Syrian citizens and serves all Syrians who live in Saudi Arabia to provide the best services for Syrians living in Saudi Arabia,".
"We will try to reopen the embassy as soon as possible with the aim of welcoming Syrian citizens to provide the best services in the consular field, including issuing passports, especially passports that are no longer valid," said Raman. Last year, the Syrian government announced the reopening of its country's diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia. Damascus' move comes after Riyadh took a similar decision to resume its diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously issued a statement announcing the start of its diplomatic delegation's activities in Syria.
