  The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has said that it has completed a 10-day training of 26 commanders of the Somali Police Force (SPF) to increase their skills and expertise in combating crime and helping to strengthen the security situation in the country. ATMIS has said that, detailed training on the management of police stations held in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, is based on theoretical and practical studies. ATMIS Deputy Commissioner of Police, Martin Amoru said in a statement released in Mogadishu that police commanders are the core of community security and have a great and important role in ongoing efforts to bring stability to Somalia

The ATMIS statement also said that the soldiers, including station commanders and their deputies from various police stations in Mogadishu, have been recruited based on criteria and from various fields and the training provided has been about various police sectors including ethics, responsibility and police supervision , the duties of the head constable of the police station, the protection of minors and the effectiveness of the community police in protecting citizens during armed attacks. African Union Somalia Peacekeeping Force The statement added that the training also covered methods of criminal investigation, arrest and detention of suspects, intelligence, search and other issues.

Somalia's Deputy Police Commissioner Osman Abdullahi Mohamed has told the officers that: "I hope that after receiving this training you will share with others the methods and skills you have acquired so that other officers in your stations can also do their jobs with the required efficiency." Efforts to build capacity to enable Somalia's security forces to take full responsibility for their country's security when ATMIS leaves Somalia in December 2024 are ongoing.
