The freed hostages include eight women and one man and were abducted on January 11 while traveling in a commercial bus on the Otukpo-Enugu road in Benue. Igbinomwanhia has also said: "During the shootout, the kidnappers fled their hideouts due to heavy attacks by the Nigerian security forces, leaving the hostages in the area. He said, the army has also succeeded in capturing the weapons and ammunition of the armed men.
