The Price of Resistance: A Million Palestinians Imprisoned in Six Decades
The latest report from the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights affairs featured a deeply concerning headline: "Over a million captives in sixty years!" Tens of thousands of children and teenagers find themselves among these detainees. At present, the number of Palestinian prisoners in detention exceeds 5,000 individuals. A staggering 1,100 individuals from this overall number are currently incarcerated without any charges or the opportunity for a fair trial. This is amid a situation where Israel's western allies resort to threats and sanctions against many Middle Eastern countries, citing concerns over dictatorship or a lack of democracy. However, when it comes to Israel, they either choose to remain silent or actively encourage and support its atrocities.
