The process of prisoner exchange between Tehran and Washington continues
A US Foreign Ministry spokesman announced the continuation of the exchange of prisoners between Tehran and Washington. According to AAA news agency, Matthew Miller said regarding the prisoner exchange agreement between Tehran and Washington that the process of releasing American citizens from Iran continues, but he refused to provide more detailed information. The start of the process of releasing seized Iranian assets and exchanging prisoners between Tehran and Washington was announced on August 10 after two years of indirect negotiations between the parties. Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, said yesterday regarding the exchange of prisoners between Iran and the United States based on the agreement reached between the two sides:
"We are optimistic that the issue of prisoner exchange will take place in the near future." He stated: "Regarding the release of Iran's financial assets, it was based on the understanding and process of action that we have witnessed so far, we hope that this transfer will take place in the coming days and that the Islamic Republic will have full access to its assets." More than a year before the US presidential election, Joe Biden, whose popularity is still falling according to polls, is looking to break his self-made foreign policy impasse to boost his party's chances of victory. The current democratic government has put a "diplomacy, pressure and deterrence" approach on the agenda to "control" existing and potential tensions in the region and with Iran until the November 2024 presidential elections.
