“On average, every 10 minutes, one child is killed and two are injured in war,” UNRWA said on social media X (formerly Twitter). The agency also called for protecting civilians during the conflict. Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip, as reported by Al Jazeera TV channel, reported that after the start of another escalation in the Middle East on October 7, the death toll in the enclave increased to 10,022, including at least 4,104 children. Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at a briefing for journalists that “Gaza is becoming a cemetery for children.” According to the head of the World Organization, "hundreds of girls and boys are killed and injured every day" in the Palestinian exclave. Guterres said Israel is openly violating international laws on humane warfare, while protecting civilians "must be the primary goal" in Israel's war against Hamas. “The nightmare in Gaza is not just a humanitarian crisis, but a crisis of human civilization,” the secretary general said, speaking at the UN headquarters in New York on Monday. The UN and the Organization's humanitarian partners, Guterres said, have launched a $1.2 billion humanitarian appeal to help 2.7 million people - the entire population of the Gaza Strip and half a million Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Quds (Jerusalem).
