Members of the United Nations Security Council have said that they are evaluating the resolution prepared by the United Kingdom, asking the army and the RSF militia in Sudan to stop fighting and allow humanitarian aid to reach millions of people affected by the conflict.

The resolution requires the support of nine votes without a veto from the permanent members of the United States, France, England, Russia and China. Britain wants the resolution to be voted on as soon as possible.

This is in a situation where, in the past, the United Nations Security Council adopted two previous resolutions on Sudan in March and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities during the holy month of Ramadan.

This is happening at this time, as it is the first time for United Nations experts to visit the city of Port Sudan, for three days, to see for themselves the situation in Darfur state.

United Nations reports show that nearly 25 million people, half of the population of Sudan, need help while hunger is witnessed in refugee camps and 11 million people have fled their homes. Almost 3 million people have been forced to become refugees abroad.
