The UN human rights chief criticized politicians for suppressing human rights

The head of human rights of the United Nations yesterday opened the 57th session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and discussed various issues affecting the world including political unrest, oppression of women's rights and freedom of media and expression .

Speaking at the meeting in Geneva, Volker Turk said that human rights are not in crisis but political leadership is needed to make them a reality. "In every corner of the world we are witnessing the movement to grab and hold power by force at the expense of human rights for all", said the head of human rights of the United Nations.

Universal Human Rights 

Turk has also pointed to the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan's approach to women's rights in that country. 

He said, the shadow of the patriarchy is still there despite some achievements 30 years after the international conference made various promises in Beijing China on respecting human rights. We continue to witness the serious weakening of gender equality issues that we thought were solved years ago, and a clear example is in Afghanistan. 

Yesterday's 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland also discussed the actions of politicians and the media in some countries to oppress immigrants, minority communities, freedom of expression and the right to call meetings and protests.
