The UN is preparing to gradually withdraw its troops from Congo
The United Nations Security Council today Tuesday is expected to accept the request of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to remove from the country the peacekeeping troops of the union (MONUSCO).
The United Nations peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) will leave the country despite concerns about the state of chaos in the east of the country. The Democratic Republic of the Congo tomorrow, Wednesday, will hold presidential and parliamentary elections; the day that coincides with the end of the term of service of the United Nations peacekeeping force in the country (MONUSCO). The eastern areas of the Congo have been affected by the lack of peace and frequent attacks by armed militia groups. Militants carrying weapons in the Congo The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for several months now has been calling for the speedy departure of the (MONUSCO) force from the country i.e. from the end of this year 2023 instead of the end of the year tomorrow despite the internal instability. The government of Kinshasa believes that the (MONUSCO) force has failed to protect civilians against the attacks of armed militia groups in eastern Congo for three decades now. These accusations of the Congo are similar to those made by other African countries, especially the government of Mali, which has also wanted to leave the country as soon as possible for the peacekeeping troops of the United Nations (MINUSMA).
