The US, Russia and China must build trust to avoid conflict in space. Steven Whiting, head of the Pentagon's space command, told RIA Novosti about this.
"We must all be responsible and act in accordance with our international obligations, be responsible and safe in orbit. Let's fulfill the obligations of the space use treaties that apply to our countries, as we all signed those documents. I think if we do things like that, we will be able to build trust and that will help us avoid space battles. We don't want a war to start or spread to outer space," Whiting said on the sidelines of the annual space conference, commenting on his remarks about the possibility of a conflict in space with US rivals Russia and China.
At an event held in Colorado Springs, Whiting stated that humanity can expect battles in space in a few decades, but the United States does not want such an outcome, considering it harmful both to itself and to its allies. According to him, the threats that used to be theoretical are now a reality and are in the arsenal of Russia and China.
In Moscow, it has been mentioned several times earlier that Russia, together with other countries, particularly China, is in favor of preventing an arms race in space.
