Trump's son-in-law's proposal to resettle Palestinians in the Negev Desert or Egypt

Donald Trump's son-in-law has proposed his solution to Gaza's bloodshed and mass displacement is to move Palestinians to the arid Negev Desert to "cleanse" the "precious" Gaza seaport.

Jared Kushner told Tariq Massoud, dean of Harvard's Middle East Initiative program, without specifying who would benefit from such a project: "Coastal property in Gaza could be very valuable if people focus on creating livelihoods."

He added that if "all the money" in Gaza were spent on "education and innovation" rather than on a network of tunnels and munitions, the region could have great potential.

Kushner's comments came as the United Nations warned that the people of Gaza faced "imminent famine" as the Israeli army continued to attack.

Kushner proposed removing the remaining Palestinians from the “precious” Gaza Strip and leaving them in the Negev Desert.

"I know it won't be popular to move people there, but I think it's the best option so you can join in and get the job done," he added.

“I’m not sure there’s anything left of Gaza now,” Kushner said when asked about concerns about a ban on Palestinians returning to Gaza.

He clarified that he does not know whether the Israeli authorities are seriously considering the possibility of resettling Palestinians in the Negev.
