Trudeau: Canada will not become the 51st state of the United States

The Canadian Prime Minister, who will leave office in March this year, has said that talks about turning Canada into the 51st state of the United States will not succeed.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in an interview with MSNBC television that Canada is also prepared to retaliate in the tariff arena if US President-elect Donald Trump implements a 25 percent tariff increase on goods from Canada and Mexico.

Trump has also referred to Canada as the 51st state of the United States, in a situation where the Canadian Prime Minister's government initially considered the issue as a joke, but now this issue has been given special importance.

Trudeau said in the interview that Canadians should take Trump's expansionist rhetoric as a matter of course.

Meanwhile, Mélanie Joly, Canada's Foreign Minister, said that Trump's remarks show that he does not understand what will transform Canada into a strong country. She said Canada's economy is strong, and the people of the country are strong.

It will be recalled that Trump once called Justin Trudeau to be the Governor of the Canadian capital.

Trudeau announced last Monday that he intends to step down after nine years in the Liberal Democratic Party government, and that he will continue to hold office until the party appoints his successor.
