The executive order implementing sanctions against Russia No. 13660 was first signed by the United States on March 6, 2014.
In that document, then-US President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on individuals and institutions allegedly involved in the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The provisions of this executive decree also apply to travel restrictions on specific individuals named and those responsible for the annexation of the island of Crimea by Russia.
The United States has extended sanctions against Russia for another year, even as the country and the United States had already begun a process of dialogue between them to resolve bilateral issues and the Ukraine conflict.
The latest round of talks between representatives of Russia and the United States ended yesterday afternoon in Istanbul, Turkey, after six hours of talks on revitalizing the process of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
