Trump Fails Due Diligence in Maine State
Donald Trump's name has been removed from the ballot papers for the 2024 American presidential primaries in the state of Maine.
According to an FNA report, Maine state election staff removed Donald Trump's name from the ballot paper for the 2024 presidential election. Shenna Bellows, Maine's Democratic secretary of the interior, released Trump's disqualification order on Thursday. Through this decision, the state of Maine became the second American state after Colorado to take this step. 10 days ago, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled against Trump. Nonetheless, Colorado's Secretary of the Interior said that because the state's Republican Party has referred the Colorado Supreme Court decision to the US Supreme Court, Trump's name will be on the ballot in next week's (January 5, 2024) primary election . Groups critical of Trump say they want to use Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution to prevent Donald Trump from running . This section of the law, passed during the American Civil War, stated that anyone who swore an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and if he "incited riot or insurrection" would be barred from re-election to office in the federal government . This clause was used to disqualify thousands of candidates from the United States (a union of eleven southern states between 1861 and 1865) . Nonetheless, since 1919, Article 3 of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution has only been used twice, while experts say that the ambiguous tone of this legal clause does not extend to former presidents. Trump's critics consider his actions on January 6 2021 to be an example of provoking riots and rebellion . On January 6, 2021, supporters of Donald Trump, former president of the United States, attacked the country's Congress to prevent the confirmation of Joe Biden's victory in the last presidential election.
