US President Donald Trump has proposed that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip be relocated from their land to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, an unusual proposal that was even opposed by the administration of his predecessor Joe Biden.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he headed to Miami, Trump said he raised the issue during a phone call with Jordan's King Abdullah II, and may raise it again when he speaks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday.

"I told him (the Jordanian king) that I would like him to take more people because when I look at the whole Gaza Strip right now it's a mess, it's a real mess," the US president claimed, adding: "I would like him (the Jordanian king) to take people."

In the interview conducted yesterday, Trump continued: "I would like Egypt to take people. I will speak to General Al Sisi tomorrow... I would like Egypt to take people. And I would like Jordan to take people."

"You're talking about a million and a half people, let's just clean up that whole place. You know there's been a lot of conflict for centuries. Something has to be done," Trump insisted in a statement indicating that his goal is to evacuate the Palestinians in Gaza, an issue that is also emphasized by the Zionist regime of Israel.

Calling Gaza a "demolition zone," the US president said he favors working with some Arab nations to build housing in a separate area so Palestinians can live there; adding that the move "could be short-term or it could be long-term."

It will be recalled that the Biden administration opposed the evacuation of Gaza residents from the area, and advocated for the return of Palestinians to their homes in line with the possibility of achieving peace and a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel.

On January 19, a ceasefire began to be implemented in the Gaza Strip to bring relief to civilians in the Palestinian territory, but Trump said last week that he was not confident that the agreement would last.

Instead of saying anything about the tragedy of the nearly 50,000 Palestinians killed in Israel's war on the territory, most of them women and children, Trump showed interest only in the geographical situation and economic interests of the region and said, "Gaza is attractive, it is a wonderful place on the sea with a great climate, and that everything about it is beautiful and can be used for good things".
