Rached Ghannouchi, head of the Islamic Ennahdha party and one of the main opponents of Tunisian president Saied, was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of conspiracy against the state. This was announced by one of his lawyers, in statements taken up by the media of the North African country. Ghannouchi, 81, was arrested last April 17, and then placed in preventive custody, following statements in which he stated that Tunisia would be "threatened by a civil war" if left-wing or Islamic parties such as Ennahdha had been "eliminated" from the Tunisian political landscape.
