Tunisians protest against the intervention of foreign powers
Tunisians have marched to announce their support for President Kais Saied and condemn the intervention of the foreign power in the country's internal affairs.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of the municipal theater in Tunis shortly after the European Union, France and the United Nations criticized the country's president over a series of arrests earlier this month in the north African nation.
Demonstrators marched to the French Embassy, raising the Tunisian flag, and chanting: "The people want Kais Saied."
"We are here to support Saied ... We are against foreign intervention and traitors," Ammar Hassen, one of the protesters was heard saying.
In response to international criticism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned several Western ambassadors, asking their countries to stop interfering in Tunisia's internal affairs.
In April 2023, President Kais Saied promised that Tunisia would not be affected by foreign pressures and called for Tunisia's sovereignty to be respected, saying the country has enough power to deal with its internal affairs.
