Turkey summons Swiss ambassador after anti-Erdogan protest
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has summoned the Swiss ambassador in Ankara Jean-Daniel Ruch, for a recent demonstration in Zurich, during the which a puppet resembling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was burned. In some videos posted online, the puppet is seen on fire in a shopping cart. Banners were also displayed with messages critical of the Turkish leader.
During the meeting, the Swiss ambassador was told that "the provocations against Erdogan and the Turkish flag are unacceptable". Ankara has also asked for an investigation to be opened to identify the perpetrators.
Reached by Keystone-ATS, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said it was aware of the facts. The relevant authorities have initiated a criminal case. Ruch informed the Turkish authorities in this regard and the FDFA did the same with the Ankara representation in the Confederation.
