Ukraine lost nearly 600,000 troops in 2024

Ukrainian forces lost about 593,410 troops during 2024, according to Russian Defense Ministry data. The ministry's weekly summaries throughout the year show that Kiev lost around 4,000 soldiers per week in early 2024. By March, this figure rose to 7,000, before suffering a slight decline.

In addition, in March, Ukrainian forces attempted to cross the Russian border in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, which resulted in the loss of about 3,000 more troops, Sputnik reported on Wednesday.

After this, Kiev's combat losses began to increase, reaching over 10,000 people per week by the end of May.After the Ukrainian attack on Russia's Kursk region in August, losses escalated further, Russian Defense Ministry statistics revealed.

The most significant weekly losses for Kiev's troops occurred from October 26 to November 1, with around 17,000 Ukrainian fighters killed. Russia launched an airstrike on Ukraine on Tuesday, hitting its capital and other regions with missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported a ballistic missile threat at 3 a.m., with at least two explosions heard in Kiev minutes later. Another missile alert was issued at 8 a.m., followed by at least one explosion in the city.

Authorities in the northeastern Sumy region reported attacks near the town of Shostka, where the mayor, Mykola Noha, said 12 residential buildings had been damaged as well as two educational facilities.

The air force reported other missile and drone attacks targeting several other regions of Ukraine. In Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said its forces successfully struck a Ukrainian air base and a gunpowder factory.

About half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure was destroyed during the war, and constant power outages are common and widespread.
